Eurasian Lynx

"The Balkan lynx (Lynx lynx martinoi) is a subspecies of the Eurasian lynx in the Lynx genus. It is the national symbol of the Republic of Macedonia. The Balkan lynx is depicted on the reverse of the Macedonian five denar coin. It is considered to be the largest cat on the continent. The name of Lynkestis, a Macedonian tribe, is translated as "Land of the Lynx". The Balkan lynx has been on the brink of extinction for nearly a century, with numbers estimated to be around one hundred."
